Last weekend I was reminded two times that life is not forever. €�Based on this extremely acute awareness of the shortness of life, everybody argued you should find work you love; work ought to be chosen for its intrinsic value, and for its sense of enjoyment, sense of purpose. And as a tribute to Life I am going to keep this blog post short. We often lament that “life is too short”, and yet so many people do the exact same thing day in and day out, failing to realize that the shortness of life is highly subjective, not to mention entirely dependent on personal choice. Word is spreading she just passed away in her sleep. Those who complain about the shortness of life are like the people that spend their entire paycheck on silly things they don't even want and then whine about not having enough money. That it will end some day and no one knows about that day or hour. When you really think about it, life is extremely short relatively to how long the world has been around. First, I discovered that a dead cat is lying in my backyard. Fenton's photograph is a clear commentary on the genre, with the over-ripe fruit to the left representing the shortness of life, and the overturned, dark tankard suggesting indulgence and extravagance. €�…the greatest waste of life exists in postponement: that is what takes away each day as it comes, that is what snatches away the present while promising something to follow. Traditional Ash Wednesday liturgies focus on the shortness of life and remind us that we come from dust and will return back to the earth, dust once more.
